Fantasy Six Nations 2022 Preview – Wales

With Saturday 5th February 2022 fast approaching, it’s time to delve a bit deeper into this year’s potential fantasy Six Nations stars. So over the next two weeks FRG is providing a quick preview of all the teams from a fantasy perspective. Today we look at Wales…

Wales

In a nutshell

Wales had a 2021 that few would have predicted. After an extremely disappointing 2020, which Wales played 10 and only won 3 (Twice against Italy and once against Georgia), Wales went on to win an unexpected Six Nations title, coming inches away from a Grand Slam. They had a slightly more mixed Autumn, losing convincingly to New Zealand, a close defeat to South Africa, an unconvincing win over Fiji and finally a last-gasp win over bogey-team Australia, but in all there were far more positives for Wayne Pivac in his second year as Wales boss.

There were a number of players who made a big splash from a fantasy perspective and should be ones worth keeping an eye on in the 2022 tournament. Louis Rees-Zammit had a stellar 2021 and time and again was give the opportunity to demonstrate his lightning pace. In addition Josh Adams showed moments of lethal form, and the wing combination of LRZ and Adams will cause defensive nightmares for many teams this winter. Elsewhere Wyn Jones made a huge impact for Wales and the Lions and was a genuine threat in the loose as well as in the scrum. Props like Jones are always fantasy gold and should be in a lot of people’s fantasy prop shortlists.

With England, France and Ireland on fire, Wales will be really up against it to repeat their 2021 performance, particularly with away trips to Twickenham and the Aviva Stadium, but they pulled off a miracle in 2021 so don’t bet against them punching above their weight again in 2022.
