Fantasy Six Nations 2022 Preview – England

With Saturday 5th February 2022 fast approaching, it’s time to delve a bit deeper into this year’s potential fantasy Six Nations stars. So over the next two weeks FRG is providing a quick preview of all the teams from a fantasy perspective. Today we look at England…

England

In a nutshell

2021 was a year of highs and lows for England, with a disappointing first quarter followed by a promising summer and an outstanding autumn, where England went unbeaten during a successful summer and Autumn Nations Series. The Six Nations campaign in 2021 was one to forget, with England winning just two matches, finishing fifth overall as they lost all three matches against home nations opposition.

2021 was the year that saw Eddie Jones finally begin to involve an exciting new generation of talent, including the likes of Marcus Smith, Freddie Steward, Raffi Quirke, Alex Dombrandt and Sam Simmonds. All of whom made a notable impact during the Autumn Nations Series, which saw back to back wins over Australia and South Africa. All 5 should make a huge impact from a fantasy perspective if picked.

Elswhere, England have talents all over the field. This time last year, the two standout performers were Maro Itoje and Anthony Watson, with Itoje’s try against France proving key and Watson finishing England’s top tryscorer in the 2021 Six Nations with four tries. Elsewhere, Jamie Blamire took to international rugby like a duck to water, with six tries in five Tests, and so becoming the first England forward ever to score in four consecutive matches.

In 2022, England enter the tournament as the bookies 2nd Favourites, however they have challenging schedule with just two home matches in what is set to be the most competitive Guinness Six Nations in years, with Ireland and France both undefeated during the recent Autumn Nations Series, while Wales is the defending champion and Scotland is a force to be reckoned with. Round five’s trip to Paris is a mouth-watering tie that could very well decide the title.
