Fantasy Rugby Geek Top 5s – My Top 5 (actually 6) Rugby Podcasts

We’re coming up to almost a month without top class rugby, and I don’t know about you, but I’m missing it badly. The withdrawal symptoms are kicking in hard, so in the absence of anything to play fantasy rugby on or indeed any live sport to watch, I’m going to stick out a few Rugby-related Top 5’s to tide things over while we stay safe and patiently wait for the return of the real “beautiful game”. If you have any ideas for Top 5’s that you’d like to see, let me know!

Next up I’m turning my attention to those commute saving heroes (remember the commute!!), the kings of the digital airwaves, the chiefs of rugby chat, these (in no particular order) are Fantasy Rugby Geek’s Top 5 (actually 6 as I couldn’t drop any of these…) Rugby Podcasts…

Eggchasers

Probably the first fan-made rugby podcast to really crack the podcast mainstream (and the three eggchasers are less ‘fans’ these days and more like rugby royalty). Three guys that know the game (all played at a decent level and the insight shows) but “don’t take the game too seriously”, and if ‘Nazi War Criminal or Springbok’, the famous Miles Benjamin love and “Wonderful Stollen” are anything to go by, this is a great thing. They love their fantasy rugby too, being big fans of Fantasy Rugby Draft and regularly topping the top leagues in FRD with their LTBP league. Also, make sure you check out JB’s spin-off, The Rugby Dungeon, for some excellent and candid interviews from several well known figures within the game. Come rain or shine, Rugby or No Rugby, the Eggchasers boys never miss an episode. Long may Monday morning commutes be soundtracked by the dulcet tones of Tim, Phil and JB. Let the boys play.

House of Rugby

A weekly(ish) show featuring James Haskell, Mike Tindall and presenter Alex Payne featuring the guys chewing the fat on the week’s Rugby events (and other events in the life of James “The Hoff” Haskell and Mike Tindall…). Expect hilarious rugby anecdotes from the lads playing days, top notch guest appearances, and a healthy dollop of MMA chat from Hask and Royal family chat from Tinds, all held together by the consummate pro that is Alex Payne, get on it!

Fantasy Rugby Draft

This is essential listening for Fantasy Rugby Draft players, both for Super Rugby and Gallagher Premiership. Down South, Bruce and the Mossman break down the fixtures looking at the best value picks and the sleepers in the world of Super Rugby. While up north, Sam Roberts and his cast of special guests (including yours truly…) cover off all things concering the Gallagher Premiership and Champions Cup. If you are looking for the edge in your Fantasy Rugby leagues, then give this a listen.

MaulOver

This group of passionate rugby fans from the West Country have pulled together to produce an absolute gem of a podcast that fully deserves a bit more recognition from rugby fans. Even during the Covid Rugby hiatus, they are still going strong with their excellent “Punching Chat” series. Their love for the game at all levels is clear and they clearly are all knowledgeable about the game without going too far down the rugby nause route. Good variety of opinions and not afraid to voice a controversial call here and there, all with a Cornish lilt, what’s not to like. There is a lot of competition out there in the Rugby pod world, however, with Maulover, you can’t go wrong, it’s a must listen.

The Rugby Pod

Andy Goode and Jim Hamilton’s weekly podcast is going from strength to strength. Some brilliant stories from their illustrious careers, great insight on the game and some constantly high-calibre guests make this an essential weekly listen (Oh, and I promised myself I wouldn’t write the b*nter word in this article, but this podcast has plenty of it…).

The Fantasy Rugby Yanks

Friends of blog, all round legends and men who know seriously know their Fantasy Rugby, Jarrod Dyke and Ben Glauser are the Fantasy Rugby Yanks. Every week they meet up and, over a beer or two, disect each week’s club and international action from a fantasy perspective and look ahead to the following week’s action. Always hugely informative and providing some valuable insights for Fantasy Rugby players, it is another essential resource to help give Fantasy Rugby players the edge.
