Welcome to Day 19 of FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary! A daily post during the World Cup in which I will be previewing the upcoming games, looking back at the previous matches and sharing the progress, trials and tribulations of all my teams across the 4 games live for the World Cup…
Match Day 16 Review
In today’s only match, South Africa laid down an attacking masterclass to rip Canada to shreds, looking totally imperious at ceratin stages in the first half. Star of the show was Cobus Reinach who had a hat trick wrapped up by the 21st minute of the match, and those without him in their team were almost as relieved as the Canada team when he was replaced early in the second half. other high performers included, Schalk Brits, Kwagga Smith, Elton Jantjies, Damian De Allende, Frans Steyn, Sbu Nkosi, Damian Willemse and Warrick Gelant.
Match Day 17 Preview
The biggest day of midweek action of the tournament so far tomorrow with three games.
First up is Argentina v USA, two sides who have disappointed thus far and a chance for Argentina to leave the tournament with a bit of pride. There are solid fantasy options on both sides, including Bautista Delguy, Santiago Carreras, Nicholas Sanchez, Julian Montoya, Guido Petti and Pablo Matera for the Pumas, and with AJ McGinty and Joe Taufete’e on the Eagles side.
Secondly is Scotland v Russia, and in such a tight pool, again Scotland will want to do all they can to secure a Bonus point victory. Scotland have named a much changed side but there are still attacking threats across the field including Darcy Graham, Tommy Seymour, Blair Kinghorn, Ryan Wilson and George Horne.
The final game of the day is Wales v Fiji, where Wales will be looking to cement their place in the Quarter-Finals. They have named a very strong side and so should have enough quality to take them through, although Fiji have an enviable record against Wales in the Rugby World Cup and have lethal threats all over the field. Plenty of opportunities for fantasy players to make points in this match, with the likes of George North, Gareth Davies, Josh Adams, Semi Radradra, Josua Tuisova and Liam Williams all having the potential to score big.
FRG’s Teams
The Rugby Magazine – Points: 1564 – Ranking: 140
Very average day today, I had Malcolm Marx coming off the bench, Tyler Ardron contributing 3 points and Elton Jantjies on my bench, yet bizarrely I find my team moving up 20 spots! Hoping for a much better day tomorrow when I have Guido Petti, Leone Nakarawa, Gareth Davies, Jonathan Davies, Semi Radradra, Santiago Carreras, Liam Williams, Joe Taufete’e, Stuart McInally and Josua Tuisova all in action. Locked and loaded and ready to fly!
SuperBru – Points: 765 – Ranking: 428
Solid performances today from Nkosi, Smith and Koch. Got loads in action tomorrow with Graham (C), Seymour, J Davies, Biggar (K), G Davies, Nakarawa, Petti, Wilson and Montoya. Hoping for a good return!
The Daily Telegraph – Points: 1308 – Ranking: 62
Just the one player today, but a good captain’s performance from Nkosi. 6 transfers left, so running low now, but tempted to bring in at least one Scot and one Welshman, but will make the call in the morning…
The Irish Times – Points: 1093 – Ranking: 33
Solid if unspectacular showing from Marx, Kolisi and Pollard today, but still enough to push me up to 33rd. Got Nakarawa, Jones, G Davies, Radradra and Tuisova in action so hoping for some more progress.
