FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary – October 4th

Welcome to Day 14 of FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary! A daily post during the World Cup in which I will be previewing the upcoming games, looking back at the previous matches and sharing the progress, trials and tribulations of all my teams across the 4 games live for the World Cup…

Match Day 13 Review

Just the one game today South Africa v Italy which turned into a one-sided bloodbath after the Italian props’ moment of madness saw them reduced to 14 men and their scrum decimated. The star performer was Cheslin Kolbe, however there were also strong performances from Bongi Mbonambi, Lukhanyo Am, Makazole Mapimpi, RG Snyman and Malcolm Marx as well as an exemplary performance with the boot from Handre Pollard.

Match Day 14 Preview

Three games are lined up for another huge Saturday. Proceedings kick off with Australia v Uruguay, and Michael Cheika has named a much changed side for the Wallabies. Despite this, Australia should make light work of Uruguay and you should expect some big performances from the explosive Jordan Petaia on his debut, the Super Rugby try machine Folau Fainga’a, the always dangerous Michael Hooper and the mecurial Kurtley Beale.

Next up is England’s first big test when they take on Argentina. If you are looking for fantasy coverage for theis game, then the likes of Jonny May, Anthony Watson, Billy Vunipola, Jamie George and Manu Tuilagi should be safe bets. Argentina have disappointed so far, but Julian Montoya, Pablo Matera, Guido Petti and Santiago Carreras always carry a threat when it comes to fantasy.

Finally the hosts Japan take on Samoa, and with a Pool Winners spot a very real possibility for Japan, they will be going hard for a win. Kotaro Matsushima, Lomano Lemeki and Kizuki Himeno should be in the points.

FRG’s Teams

The Rugby Magazine – Points: 1220 – Ranking: 189

A pretty good day with excellent performances from Cheslin Kolbe and Malcom Marx. They were my only two playing today, so despite their performances, I’ve slipped down the standings 20 places. Tomorrow should be good with Maro Itoje, Guido Petti, Jonny May and Owen Farrell in action for my Gameweek 3 side, and as for my Gameweek 4 team…

I have 6 players in action with Ala’alatoa, Ji-Won, Leitch, Matsushima, Vui and Nanai-Williams in action. So far no hits needed for Round 4, althou a lot of teams to be announced. Make sure you get your Round 4 team set for the Australia game tomorrow.

SuperBru – Points: 658.50 – Ranking: 369

Some good scores today from Kolbe and Mapimpi today have kept my score ticking along. Not sure that I’ll be making ground on the leaderboard by the time this Match Round is out though. Tomorrow I have Billy Vunipola, Allan Ala’alatoa and Julian Montoya in action, so expecting modest returns…

The Daily Telegraph – Points: 1052 – Ranking: 76

Another good day and another small rise in the rankings, I had captain Kolbe and Mapimpi bring in some good points. Tomorrow I’ll probably bring in Petaia and will hopefully get some good points from Itoje and Billy V. Need to work out what to do with the rested Beauden Barrett too.

The Irish Times – Points: 931 – Ranking: 21

An okay day, kicking myself for not bringing in Kolbe. Tomorrow I have appearances from Ala’alatoa, Inagaki and Leitch, so not holding my breath for a big score!
