FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary – October 12th

Welcome to Day 23 of FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary! A daily post during the World Cup in which I will be previewing the upcoming games, looking back at the previous matches and sharing the progress, trials and tribulations of all my teams across the 4 games live for the World Cup.

Match Day 19 Review

One game left standing after the cancellations and it saw Ireland take a comfortable victory over Samoa. Despite the red catrd for Bundee Aki, Ireland stretched away with a seven-try victory. There were starring performances from Johnny Sexton, who bagged two tries and four kicks, Jordan Larmour with a try, an assist and 12 defenders beaten. An addition there were good scores for all the tryscorers Rory Best, Tadhg Furlong, CJ Stander and Andrew Conway.

Match Day 20 Preview

A whopping four games take place on Sunday (Typhoon permitting…). First up is the earliest game of the tournament, one for the hardcore, it’s Namibia v Canada. Not a whole lot of fantasy interest in this match, but if you are going for anyone, then you could do worse than DTH Van Der Merwe, Jeff Hassler and JC Greyling.

Next is another wooden spoon clash in Pool C with USA v Tonga. A lot of players keen to go out with a win and this should be a great game. Players to look at include AJ McGinty, Joe Taufete’e and Blaine Scully from the US and Telusa Veianu, Viliami LoloheaAtieli Pakalani.

Then it is out to Kumamoto for Wales v Uruguay in what should be one-sided traffic. Wales have named a team with plenty of change but also plenty of class and established first teamers. The likes of hat-trick hero Josh Adams, Hadleigh Parkes and Justin Tipuric. To be confirmed whether it will be Rhys Patchell or Leigh Halfpenny on kicking duty, but both are excellent fantasy options either way.

Finally, and Typhoon dependent, we have the crunch match in Pool A between Scotland and Japan. A must win for both teams and expect a colossal battle if the game goes ahead. Players likely to make a fantasy impact include Shota Horie, Kizuki Himeno, Kenki Fukuoka and Kotaro Matsushima for Japan and Darcy Graham, Tommy Seymour, Stuart Hogg and Finn Russell for Scotland.

FRG’s Teams

The Rugby Magazine – Points: 2020 – Ranking: 42

A good performance today centred around the magnificent Tadhg Furlongwho brought in 47 points alone, and help propel my team into the Top 50. A solid performance from Chris Vui and Conor Murray contributed well, although Jacob Stockdale again disappointed. Tomorrow I’ll have Tyler Ardon, Michael Leitch, Rhys Patchell and Kotaro Matsushima in action (if the games go ahead…).

SuperBru – Points: 918.5 – Ranking: 428

Nobody playing today so all eyes on tomorrow with Tommy Seymour, Darcy Graham and Gareth Davies in action…

The Daily Telegraph – Points: 1573 – Ranking: 22

I had two players in action today and they couldn’t have done any more, CJ Stander and Tadhg Furlong. Both racked up great scores for me, especially with Stander as my captain. 2 transfers left and 4 captain changes, I’m thinking of bringing in a couple of Welsh players for what should be a procession against Uruguay…

The Irish Times – Points: 1286 – Ranking: 39

Not a great day, I had two players in action, Henderson and Earls who contributed a diasppointing 10 and 6 respectively. Slipped to 39 as a result, putting all my faith in the Welsh and Japanese boys tomorrow…
