FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary – October 11th

Welcome to Day 22 of FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary! A daily post during the World Cup in which I will be previewing the upcoming games, looking back at the previous matches and sharing the progress, trials and tribulations of all my teams across the 4 games live for the World Cup.

Match Day 18 Review

Just the one game today with Australia and Georgia battling out a slugfest in horrific conditions. It was a tough armwrestle but Australia came out on top with a 27-8 victory. The outstanding performer from a fantasy perspective was Marika Koroibete, who bagged a wonder try as well as carrying for 111m, making 3 clean breaks and beating 11 defenders. Huge credit should also go to Beka Gorgadze for a massive 22 tackles and 5 turnovers won.

Match Day 19 Preview

Following the cancellation of England v France and New Zealand v Italy there’s just the one game on Saturday, Ireland v Samoa. Ireland have named a strong side knowing that it is still critical that they accumulate as many points as possible with Japan and Scotland both capable of getting the two qualifying spots (Typhoon depending…). Key players to consider include Jacob Stockdale, Keith Earls, Jordan Larmour, Conor Murray, CJ Stander and Tadhg Beirne. Samoa have been hit and miss all tournament but if anyone has the ability to do some damage against Ireland it’s Alapati Leiua and Ed Fidow.

FRG’s Teams

The Rugby Magazine – Points: 1851 – Ranking: 72

A new gameweek in place and although my side is ravaged by cancellations, the clever workaround by The Rugby Magazine of applying the average score to the players with cncelled games has limited the damage considerably. Today was okay with Kerevi and Gigashvili both starting and getting average points with Gorgadze on my bench making the biggest impact with 20 ppoints after his points were halved. Hoping for soem good points tomorrow with Captain Murray, Jacob Stockdale and Chris Vui in action.

SuperBru – Points: 908.5 – Ranking: 428

Just one player in action today in Samu Kerevi with a low 10 point performance. Following this morning’s team announcements I only have an appearance off the bench from Gareth Davies in the Wales game, but I will have both Darcy Graham (c) and Tommy Seymour in action for Scotland (if the game doesn’t get cancelled), let’s see what happens. Nobody playing tomorrow.

The Daily Telegraph – Points: 1515 – Ranking: 36

Now that my team is ripped to shreads following the cncellations, I’ve got to make sure that my remaing transfers punch hard. Today my only player in action did that with Marika Koroibete getting 27 points and 54 with the armband on him. I will have Tadhg and CJ Stander playing tomorrow, so hoping that I get some kind of return, but at this stage it really is just damage limitation!

The Irish Times – Points: 1270 – Ranking: 21

Just Latu and Kerevi in action today so slipped down the pecking order a bit. Brought in Josh Adams (c), Rhys Patchell, Latu, Henderson, Parkes and Kerevi so hoping for a big Sunday. Currently 68 points off the top spot…
