Welcome to Day 10 of FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary! A daily post during the World Cup in which I will be previewing the upcoming games, looking back at the previous matches and sharing the progress, trials and tribulations of all my teams across the 4 games live for the World Cup…
Match Day 9 Review
First up today there was an all-Tier 2 clash between Georgia v Uruguay. There was to be no repeat of Georgia’s heroics against Fiji with a convincing win from a Georgia side who rested a number of their key players. Outstanding performances came from Otar Giorgadze, Jaba Bregvadze and Zurab Dzneladze.
In an absolutely breathtaking match in Tokyo, Wales and Australia squared off to determine who will likely be the Pool D winners. Both sides were magnificent but in the end it was Wales who emerged victorious. There were outstanding performers across the field, but anyone with Gareth Davies, Samu Kerevi, Michael Hooper, Hadleigh Parkes, Dan Biggar and Dane Haylett-Petty will be very happy with their contribution.
Match Day 10 Preview
Just the one game on Monday where Scotland will be looking to bounce back after their disappointing opener against Ireland when they take on Samoa. Scotland have named their strongest possible lineup and the bookies are expecting them to ease past Samoa. Fantasy interest in this game will be on Stuart McInally, Darcy Graham, Stuart Hogg and Finn Russell. From a Samoa perspective, they play a wide game, and both wingers impressed against Russia, so don’t bet against Alapati Leuia (playing in the Centres this week) and Ed Fidow doing more damage.
FRG’s Teams
The Rugby Magazine – Points: 815 – Ranking: 286
Gameweek 2 for me went out with a whimper with Beka Gorgadze coming on for a grand total of 3 minutes and Gigashvili remaining on the bench. Total points for Gameweek 2 were 327…
My gameweek 3 side kicked off with appearances from Samu Kerevi, Allan Ala’alota and Jonathan Davies and bench contributions from Gareth Davies and Liam Williams. Some great scores from Ala’alatoa, Kerevi and G Davies in particular. The rest of my team is set for the rest of the gameweek as below. What are the three empty spots? They will be filled by All Blacks when their team is announced tomorrow for the Canada game…
SuperBru – Points: 459.5 – Ranking: 7,011
Two players in action today in Samu Kerevi and Allan Ala’alatoa playing, both of who contributed well. I have nobody playing tomorrow so that is my Round 2 done.
The Daily Telegraph – Points: 751 – Ranking: 198
Four appearances today with George North, Gareth Davies, Samu Kerevi and Allan Ala’alatoa. All scored well with Davies in particular absolutely magnificent. As things stand I have nobody playing tomorrow, but I’m weighing up having some Scottish representation in my team.
The Irish Times – Points: 568 – Ranking: 898
Two players where in action today, Alun Wyn Jones and Gareth Davies, and both made an excellent contribution, with Davies bringing in a great 29 points. I have nobody playing tomorrow so looking forward to Wednesday now for my next points.
