Fantasy Rugby Games Overview – The Official Super Rugby Pacific 2026 Fantasy Game

The first in a series of game overviews to give you the ins and outs of the available games in place for this season’s Super Rugby Pacific. If any new games pop up, please let us know at fantasyrugbygeek@gmail.com or @frugbygeek on Twitter. First is the Official Super Rugby game, now into its second year after a great first year, check it out here.

THE PREMISE

A salary cap style fantasy game, you have a budget of $100m to fill your team of 15 with players. You must pick 1 Hooker, 2 Props, 2 Second Rows, 3 Back Rows, 1 Scrum Half, 1 Fly Half, 2 Centres and 3 Outside Backs

Once the tournament gets underway, you can make unlimited transfers throughout the tournament. The Rolling Lockout is an important point to note. At the start of the Round, your whole team will NOT lockout, and you can continue making trades. Players will lockout individually when their team starts playing in the Round. You may not make any Transfers involving locked out players until the end of the Round (For example, if you have players from Highlanders or Crusaders in your team, they will Lockout at the beginning of Round 1 as they feature in the first game. However, all other players in your team will remain unlocked and eligible to transfer).

Those who played it last year will know all about the score “boosters”. There are 3 boosters that are available. These are the Triple Captain (your chosen player will have his match score tripled), Limitless (you will have an unlimited budget for one round only) and Co-Captains (for one round only, you will be able to select two captains to score double points).  Each booster can be used once a season, so use it them carefully.

For the 2026 Fantasy Super Rugby Pacific season, player pricing has been refreshed with the introduction of Variable Player Pricing. Every player starts with an initial value, but their price can now change each Fantasy Round based on performance. At the end of each round, a player’s score is measured against an expected score linked to their position and current price, meaning higher-priced players are expected to deliver more points. Depending on how they perform, a player’s value can stay the same, rise, or fall by up to £0.5m per round. Players who do not feature, or play fewer than 10 minutes, will not see a price change. These weekly price movements directly impact your squad value, creating opportunities to profit from smart transfers — while poor timing can just as easily cost you. It’s a really cool evolution and a really positive move from the game.

Being the official game it will no doubt be hugely popular with a big player pool, so you are definitely recommended to sign up!

THE KEY POINTS

  • Site: https://www.playfantasyrugby.com/
  • Squad Size: 15
  • Team size: 15
  • Double scoring captain?: Yes, you can change it for each round of the tournament
  • Designated Kicker?: No

THE EDGE

Choose your captain wisely

There are double points for a captain, so choose your skipper wisely. You can play it safe with a kicker, or consult the anytime tryscorer odds to see if any player in particular is expected to fill their boots with tries.

Keep a close eye on bye weeks

Every week one team will be on a bye and Rounds 8 and 14 several teams will be on a bye, so ensure a good even spread of representatives from each team so that you don’t get stung. Below is a full list of 2026 byes.

Bye weeks…

  • Round 1 Bye: Hurricanes
  • Round 2 Bye: Reds
  • Round 3 Bye: Waratahs
  • Round 4 Bye: Drua
  • Round 5 Bye: Chiefs
  • Round 6 Bye: Force
  • Round 7 Bye: Crusaders
  • Round 8 Bye: Brumbies, Blues, Highlanders, Hurricanes, Moana Pasifika
  • Round 9 Bye: Waratahs
  • Round 10 Bye: Reds
  • Round 11 Bye: Force
  • Round 12 Bye: Chiefs
  • Round 13 Bye: Drua
  • Round 14 Bye: Brumbies, Crusaders, Moana Pasifika
  • Round 15 Bye: Blues
  • Round 16 Bye: Highlanders

Use your boosters strategically

Let’s dig into the “boosters” a bit deeper…

To recap, there are 3 boosters that are available that can all be played once in the season. The boosters are…

  • Triple Captain – Your captain will score you triple points for their next match.
  • Limitless – You will have an unlimited budget for one round only
  • Co-Captains – For one round only, you will be able to select two captains to score double points

Goes without saying that the Triple Captain should be someone you’d back to have a huge all round game, so target one of the biggest mismatches to try and have a player likely for a safe haul. For the Limitless chip I’ll be looking at weeks when the bigger teams like Blues, Chiefs and Crusaders all have potential mismatches, or on one of the multiple team bye weeks (Round 8 and 14), when the player pool is reduced. Finally, I’ll use my co-captain on weeks where I am really struggling to choose between two captain options.

Use your budget carefully

You have a budget of $100m for 15 players, which gives you $6.6m per player. Unsurprisingly the premium players with premium price tags, however, there are also potential bargains to be had, including the likes of Nanai-Seturo, Fineangonofo, Moorby, Rona, Sullivan, Iose, Lakai, and Valentini, all worth a look in, and should allow you to bring in some premium stars elsewhere.

Play the market

Catch the price rises

With the dynamic pricing now in place, it provides a great opportunity to increase your team value over the course of the season. In order to target these opportunities, it is well worth identifying the up and coming value talents who are likely to get plenty of opportunities for the season start. So identify those value options and enjoy the price rises!

Load up with kickers

There is no limit on the amount of kickers you can select and kicks are guaranteed points, so while you are restricted to one fly half, if there are kickers playing in other positions (scrum half and full back for example…) then sign them up.
