Fantasy Rugby Games Overview – The Rugby Paper’s 2024 Multi-league Fantasy Game

With the start of the domestic season still some way off, and a lot of thumb twiddling while you can start selecting your club fantasy teams, The Rugby Paper have introduced a new and unique fantasy game for the 2024/25 season!

If you are a frequenter of Butts Park Arena, Billesley Common, Goldington Road or even The Big Field of Dorking RFC, this is the game for you.

Requiring selections from the Gallagher Premiership, Premiership Women’s Rugby, United Rugby Championship, RFU Championship, RFU National League 1 and RFU National League 2 (East, West and North); this is the ultimate test of your domestic Rugby knowledge.

Check the game out here. Without further ado, this is how you play the game…

THE PREMISE

This is a totally unique game, a bit more like a predictor than a classic Fantasy format, you don’t pick players in this competition, you pick teams, and you gain points based on the results your chosen teams accumulate.

It’s pay to play, £5 to enter, and there will be Seven Manger of the Month prizes with the first one being October 2024 and the final one will be April 2025. There will be cash prizes for the top three at the end of the season and as well a prize for finishing bottom! Because entry is being opened up from the beginning of August 2024, there is also an Early Entry Bonus of 500pts is being awarded to everyone who enters by midnight on Friday 6th September 2024.

The premise is simple, you will need to choose 3 teams from each of the following leagues; Gallagher Premiership, Premiership Women’s Rugby, United Rugby Championship, RFU Championship, RFU National League 1 and RFU National League 2 (East, West and North). After you have chosen your 24 teams, you will then select 5 of your 24 teams to be your Joker teams which will gain you double points, so select the teams that you belive will run away with their leagues!

And it’s simple as that!

You can also pick 5 substitute teams, but these 5 teams must be on your TRP Fantasy Rugby 2024/25 Entry Form. In January, if your original selections are not cutting it, then you can choose to switch 3 teams from your substitutes.

In terms of the points scoring, points are awarded as follows…

  • Home Win = 10pts
  • Away Win = 20pts
  • Home Draw = 2pts
  • Away Draw = 4pts
  • Home Defeat = -10pts
  • Away Defeat = -5pts
  • Every point scored = 1pt (this counts if your team wins, draws or loses)
  • Every point conceded = -1pt (win and defeat only)
  • Bonus Points = 10pts (this is awarded if your team scores 25pts or more)
  • Further 5pts for every 10pts more your team scores beyond the 25pt threshold. So, if your team scores 35pts it would qualify for 15 bonus points.

In addition there are league leader and bottom team additional points. At the end of each month up to and including April 2025 the top team leading each of the 8 leagues will be awarded 25pts, while the bottom team of the 8 leagues will be awarded -25pts.

Finally, there will be some end of season bonus points awarded…

  • All League Champions 200pts for winning their respective leagues.
  • The bottom team only in each league at the end of the season’s TRP Fantasy Rugby will be awarded -200 bonus points.

Note that the above End of Season bonuses will only be awarded if you picked the qualifying teams at the start of the competition on your original entry form. If you have brought any of the teams in as a substitution you will be awarded half the points at the end of the season.

Finally, as the season progresses you will be able to follow your journey through the TRP Fantasy Rugby 2024/25 season on a weekly basis via The Rugby Paper and via the game organiser Ian White’s very own fantasy sports website.

It looks like a simple and great fun game, and it’s a brilliant opportunity to shine a spotlight on more leagues just beneath the top tier of English club rugby.
