FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary – October 9th

Welcome to Day 20 of FRG’s Fantasy Rugby World Cup Diary! A daily post during the World Cup in which I will be previewing the upcoming games, looking back at the previous matches and sharing the progress, trials and tribulations of all my teams across the 4 games live for the World Cup…

Match Day 17 Review

A big day of action today with three matches taking place. First up Argentina and USA played out a highly entertaining match in Kumagaya which saw Argentina run out 47-17 victors. Leading the way with a truly outstanding performance was Juan Cruz Mallia with two tries, two assists, 164m carried, 6 clean breaks and 10 defenders beaten. Other high performers included Blaine Scully, Joaquin Tuculet, Nicolas Sanchez and Jeronimo De La Fuente.

Next up was Scotland v Russia. Scotland needed a big win, and they duly obliged with a 61-0 thumping. Standinging out was Adam Hastings, with two tries, eight successful kicks, an assist as well as 87m carried, 2 clean breaks and 5 defenders beaten. A masterclass from 10. In addition, George Horne scored the second hatrick from a 9 in as many days, resulting in a big points haul. Other good fantasy scores were registered by George Turner, Tommy Seymour, John Barclay, Stuart McInally and Darcy Graham.

Finally there was an immense clash at Oita between Wales and Fiji, which included some stunning attacking Rugby and resulted in Wales winning and guarunteeing a spot in the Quarter-Finals. Leading the way with a hat trick was Josh Adams, but there were also some big fantasy points generating performances from Josua Tuisova, Semi Radradra, Liam Williams and Kini Murimurivalu.

No games tomorrow, so it’s all eyes on Friday and the final weekend of the pool stage.

FRG’s Teams

The Rugby Magazine – Points: 1741 – Ranking: 92

A good day that saw me reach the top 100 for the first time this tournament, the majority of my players performed well, with Petti, Radradra and Liam Williams outstanding. Now I need to re-shuffle my team for Gameweek 5, but I’ll wait until Friday morning and all teams for the weekend announce before I do any transfers.

SuperBru – Points: 908.5 – Ranking: 428

Another good day, with captain Darcy Graham’s amazing running bringing in 52 points alone, and Tommy Seymour, Jonathan Davies and Guido Petti also contributing well. Next player in action will be Samu Kerevi on Friday.

The Daily Telegraph – Points: 1308 – Ranking: 39

A good rise up the rankings and into the Top 50, but still 160 points off the pace. I had 5 players in action today, Bautista Delguy who scored well despite getting no tries, Tommy Seymour who got on the scoresheet, Gareth Davies with an assist and Nakarawa and Taufete’e. I want to have at least one Australian in my side on Friday nut who that will be largely depends in who gets rested this weekend, so I’ll hold off committing to any changes until Friday morning. 3 transfers and 6 captains left…

The Irish Times – Points: 1232 – Ranking: 6

Into the Top 10 and just 30 points off the top spot, this is getting quite exciting. Today my Fijian legends once again came good, I’m going to miss them, Nakarawa, Tuisova and Radradra all got big points. In addition Gareth Davies scored well, as did AWJ. Onwards to Friday when I need to think very carefully about my substitutions both with the final round of the pool stage and the start of the knockout stage in mind.
